While attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Donna Mills decided to drop out of school after completing one academic year to pursue a career on acting. She started out with a guest role on the TV soap opera The Secret Storm. She then took a regular role on the soap opera Love is a Many Splendored Thing. Her acting career continued to prosper on subsequent years. She has appeared on a lot of TV projects such as  The Six Million Dollar Man, Police Woman, Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, CHiPs, Thriller, The Oregon Trail, Nip/Tuck, Cold Case, The Melrose Place, GCB, The Good Life and Quincy, M.E..

Donna Mills was never married but she has an adopted daughter named Chloe whom she currently lives with in Los Angeles California.
