Paul di Resta started his karting career in 1994. Then, he began his racing adventure when he competed at British Formula Renault Winter Series in 2002.

He finished seventh in the British Formula Renault in 2003 with the Eurotek Motorsport team. In 2004, he switched to Manor Motorsport as he finished third placed with four wins under his name.

In 2004, di Resta won the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. A year after, he switched to the Formula Three Euroseries as he finished tenth in the standings.

In 2006, he transferred to ASM Formule 3 team and grabbed the championship with five wins. He also won BP Ultimate Masters at Circuit Park Zandvoort. Then, in 2007, di Resta switched from single seaters to race in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters touring car racing series under Mercedes team.

He joined Force India in 2010, as a team's test and reserve driver. A year later, di Resta outpaced team mate Adrian Sutil in first half of season. He scores in his first two Grands Prix and qualifies a spectacular sixth for his home race at Silverstone.

In 2012, Di Resta qualified in the season opener in Australia and finished 10th placed on the said race. He competed in the Malaysian Grand Prix, and finished seventh in the race.

Meanwhile in 2013, he qualified in the Chinese Grand Prix Qualifying, as di Resta placed eleventh, and finished in eighth place.
