At the age of 8, John Orozco began attending gymnastics lessons. When he was 15 years old, he was qualified for the Junior Visa U.S. National Championships and he was the youngest participant who made it into the finals. In 2008 and 2010, he won gold medals for the Pacific Ring Championships.

After graduating in high school, he left New York to obtain extensive training at the United States Olympic Training Center which is based in Colorado Springs. He was part of the USA team who went to Japan to compete in the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships where the team got a bronze medal.

Orozco also participated in the 2012 London Summer Olympics where he placed 5th in the Men's artistic team all-around category and 8th place in the Men's artistic individual all-around category.
