Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born on August 20, 1946 in Mysore, Karnataka, India. He has built his estimated net worth of $1.55 billion while working at Infosys. Formerly named Infosys Technologies, it is an Indian multinational provider of business consulting, information technology, software engineering, and outsourcing services. Based on the 2012 revenues, it is the third-largest India-based IT services company.

Also known as Narayana Murthy, he began his professional career with Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad as chief systems programmer and Patni Computer Systems in Pune (Maharashtra). He started with Infosys in 1981, an IT company that he co-founded along with Nandan Nilekani, N. S. Raghavan, S. Gopalakrishnan, S. D. Shibulal, K. Dinesh, and Ashok Arora.

Mr. Murthy served as the CEO of Infosys from its inception until 2002 and its chairman from 2002 to 2011 when he stepped down from the board and became Chairman Emeritus. He was appointed as Additional Director and Executive Chairman of the board for five years on June 1, 2013. On May of 2013, he was selected for the James C. Morgan Global Humanitarian Award sponsored by Applied Materials whose previous recipients include Bill Gates and Al Gore.
