Mr. Salles has built his estimated net worth of $2.7 billion when he joined Unibanco, the largest private banking institution in Brazil with some $450 billion in assets, in 1989. The bank was headed for several decades by his father Walter Moreira Sales. He serves as the Vice President for six years and became the Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1997. He was named CEO in April 2004. He was largely responsible in the 2008 merger of the bank with Banco Itau.
