Born in 1923 in Kamalia, British India, Brijmohan Lall Munjal is known to have founded the The Hero MotoCorp, which currently owns the India-based Hero Honda Motors. Hero Cycles Ltd started with supplying components and spare parts to bicycle manufacturers. Eventually, the company engaged into manufacturing, and started with creating chains, front forks and handlebars. In 1986, Hero Cycles Ltd. joined the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest manufacturers of bicycles.

This formidable businessman has been a recipient of many awards from numerous award giving bodies. In 1994, he was named by Business India magazine as the Businessman of the Year. A year later, he became the recipient of the National Award for outstanding contribution to the Development of Indian Small Scale Industry.
