American investor and hedge fund manager Richard Edward Rainwater has an estimated net worth of over $2.8 billion as of May 2015 according to Forbes.

After finishing his MBA degree from Stanford Business School, Rainwater worked as an investment banker. Eventually, he became the chief financial architect for the investments of the Bass family. The family gave him $5 million but he lost it all. While studying the works of David Dodd and Benjamin Graham, Rainwater took the chance to talk to Charles Allen Jr and Warren Buffett. Later on, the fortune of Bass family increased to $5 billion. During that time, he was reported to get around $100 million which he later used to start his own business.

Richard Edward Rainwater is one of the founders of ENSCO International, Columbia Hospital Corporation, Mid Ocean Limited, Crescent Real Estate Equities, Inc., and Pioneer Natural Resources.

Currently, Richard Rainwater is married to Darla Moore with whom he has three children named Matthew, Courtney and Todd. In 2009, his physician announced that he is suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy. His youngest child Matthew eventually became his legal guardian.
