Daniel D'aniello was born in 1947 in Butler, Pennsylvania. After finishing his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, magna cum laude, D'aniello went to study at Harvard Business School where he finished his MBA.

After serving as the financial officer of TWA and Pepsico, Daniel D'aniello later served as Marriott Corporation's Finance and Development. He was tasked to valuate divestitures, debt, equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions. Together with David Rubenstein and William E. Conway Jr., Daniel D'aniello founded Carlyle Group in 1987.

Daniel D'aniello currently resides in Vienna, Virginia with Gayle, his wife of twenty seven years. The couple has two daughters together.
