In addition to being the founder, Krasny is best recognized as the former CEO of CDW Corporation, a company that specializes on direct selling technical gadgets which include networking equipment and computers.

Of Jewish ancestry, Michael Krasny is an alumnus of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. After graduation, he started working as a Toyota car salesman in an auto dealership owned by his father.

Later on, he noticed the growing demand for computers. He started buying computer units then resold them, which led to the creation of MPK Computers. A year later, the firm's name was changed to Computer Discount Warehouse (CDW). It was in 1993 when the company went public. In 2006, CDW was sold to Madison Dearborn Partners for only $7.3 billion.
