American businessman Bill Rasmussen has an estimated net worth of $600 million in 2012. He is best recognized as the founder of ESPN to which he served as the first president and chief executive officer.

Rasmussen's media career started in 1962 with Amherst, Massachusetts-based WTTT radio. Three years later, he started working for WWLP-TV where he had an eight-year tenure as Sports Director. He spent his last two years with the company as the News Director. Starting in 1974, he worked as Communications Director for New England Whalers.

Together with his son, Scott Rasmussen, Bill Rasmussen co-founded ESPN in 1978 and it was considered as “The Worldwide Leader in Sports”. USA Today referred Rasmussen as “The Father of Cable Sports”. He is known to have pioneered the first ever  24-hour cable network on television.

Currently, Bill Rasmussen serves as a speaker to many universities and corporations and he is known to talk about business development, entrepreneurship and innovation. He was inducted into the Connecticut Sports Museum and Hall of Fame and Enfield, Connecticut Athletic Hall of Fame, in 1997 and 1999, respectively.
