In 1977, he asked Bob Circosta to advertise and sell avocado-green-colored can openers over the airwaves and they were overwhelmed with the response from the listeners. Just within an hour, 112 can openers were sold.

Subsequently,  Paxson Communications was formed and Bud Paxson continued on purchasing billboards, radio stations and TV stations. Shortly, he sold them all and invested his money to a network of family-friendly TV shows, PAX TV. However, his venture proved to be unsuccessful.

PAX TV was later renamed to i, which means Independent Television. Shortly, Bud Paxson decided to resign from the company. Today, Paxson Communications is known as Ion Media Networks.
