Darla Dee More was born on August 1, 1954  in Lake City, South Carolina. She attended the University of South Carolina and George Washington University. After finishing her Political Science degree from the University of South Carolina, she started working for Washington D.C.'s Republican National Committee.

It was in 1991 when she married the founder of Rainwater Inc. Two years later, she became the President of the firm. In 1998 and 1999, she was named as one of 50 Most Powerful Women In Business by Fortune Magazine.

Since 2001, Darla and Richard Rainwater have been living separately. She lives in California while her husband lives in Texas. In 2011, his son Matthew Rainwater was declared by the court as the legal guardian of his father, Richard Rainwater, as the latter continues to struggle against his current condition known as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).
