Brazilian philanthropist Lily Safra has an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion. Named by Forbes as one of the richest persons in the world, Safra has obtained majority of her wealth from her four marriages.

Originating from Porto Alegre, Brazil, she was born as Lily Watkins on 30th December 1934. At age 17, she married the hosiery magnate, Mario Cohen with whom she has three children named Eduardo, Adriana, and Claudio (deceased).

Her second marriage was to Alfredo "Freddy" Monteverde with whom she has a son named Carlos. When the latter died of suicide in 1969, all of his assets were inherited by his wife.

After dating Edmond Safra for quite some time, she married Samuel Bendahan. The couple lived together for two months only, and after a year of marriage, they divorced.

Eventually, she married the Jewish-Lebanese banker Edmond Safra who was known to be the founder of many investments which include the Republic National Bank of New York. He died due to fire which was later confirmed as arson. The fire was found to be started by Safra's nurse and green beret bodyguard. However, after eight years of serving the prison, Ted Maher, the bodyguard, still claims his innocence. After Safra's death, 50% of his assets were given to several charitable institutions, and the remaining 50% were subdivided among the other members of his family. His wife received $800 million.
