José María Ramos de León in real life, Joey de Leon was born on October 14, 1946 in Manial, Philippines. He attended the National University in Manila. After his unsuccessful first marriage which resulted in the birth of his first two children, Joey de Leon is currently married to Eileen Macapagal de Leon with whom he has three children.

His showbiz career is said to have started sometime in the 1960's where he worked as an announcer and disc jockey. He has also worked for 12 radio stations in the country, which include the seven stations owned by one of the most popular channels in the country, The ABS-CBN Kapamilya Network.
