Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig on September 21, 1983  in Worthington, Ohio, USA. After dropping out of high school due to her parent's divorce, she landed a job in 2001, playing the title character in the video series Rachel's Room. In 2002, she appeared in the TV movie Murder in Greenwich as Martha Moxley. Her acting earned her a nomination for the Young Artist Award.

Beginning in 2002, she appeared in the first two seasons of the series Lost as Shannon Rutherford. The role won her a Screen Actors Guild Award.
